Nabina's father is in prison for life for murdering his wife although he claims that she committed suicide. Nabina and her brother used to live with their grandparents. Their grand parents are very old and poor as Nabina’s father was the only person in the family that earned money.They lost their land and money for the case defending Nabinas’s father.
 
 
  General Description of Child  
 

Nabina is a very obedient, hard working, well mannered girl and is quiet and shy. Nabina takes care of her brother as though he is her own child. She is honest and caring and very attached to her brother. When she arrived at Marybert looked very nervous but now she is slowly becoming more confident.

 

Nabina and her brother were brought to Marybert one year ago by a friend of Mysmallhelp member and Marybert headmistress Sabina Thapa. Sabinas friend used to be a volunteer at the prison. Nabina’s father appealed to her to find a place for her children to study and this is why they arrived at Marybert.

Ashok doesn’t have a father. He was with his Mum in the village and she was working in the house of another villager. She has a very poor financially background but she wanted him to go to school. She asked for the help from Marybert School and they provide MySmallHelp with his details.

He is sensitive and is very keen to learn. He likes stories and tells stories a lot. He enjoys studying and is a very good student.

Dhanmaya is a very hard working and sincere girl. She loves to play, sing and dance. She is doing very well in her studies and has worked hard to get where she is as when she arrived she had no educational background. She has improved fast through hard work and is a credit to herself.

Ananda’s parents live and work in a village outside Kathmandu. They work very hard and have very liitle time to visit Ananda who lives at the school. They decided to move Ananda away from the village which suffers from Maoist problems. When the parents visit the school they sometimes make payments or provide vegetables in return for Ananda’s accommodation and schooling.

Ananda is an intelligent, gentle and independent boy. He plays the Maadal (kind of drum) very well and loves basketball. Ananda would like to be a doctor.

Ashok’s parents live in village. They are very poor and have 4 children. They wanted to send their children to school but could not afford it. They work for others in the village. Ashok is the eldest son. Ashok was sent to India at a young age to work. His grandfather saw the positive influence of sending his younger brother Roki to Marybert Orphanage and so therefore wanted Ashok to also have this opportunity.

   
General Description of Child  
As Ashok has been working, he had not received any education like other children his age. He is therefore in a lower class to others his age, allowing him to learn and catch up with his education. He really wants to learn and is hard-working - just like his brother! Ashok has a very helpful nature towards his friends and teachers.

Santaman is very responsible, sensitive and caring. He is always helping others and likes to paint. He always seems more mature then his age and loves pets.

Jyoti is quiet, honest and responsible. She had some problems leaning when she started school but through hard work she has caught up and is doing nicely. She is a great dancer and she is always helping others and loves her playtimes.

Shamilas mother left her when she was a child. Since her father didn’t take care of her she was cared for by her aunt in the village. After her aunt had her own family there was nobody to take care of her. She is now a resident at the Marybert Orphanage.

   
General Description of Child  
When Sharmila arrived at the Marybert school/orphanage she was very slow and had many discipline and psychological problems. Since she has been cared for and been given love she has changed dramatically. She likes to play and visit new places. She is also improving in her studies. She is now a very active child.
