Brahamini School, Chatturale, Nepal

Shree Brahmayani Primary School is a government run school. There are 156 pupils from grade 1 -5 currently studying at the school and there are only 3 teachers which have been allocated by the government. It is very hard for three teachers to cope with 156 children. The whole school building is in a bad condition that it looks like it may collapse any time. The school does not have many facilities.

There is no library, computer labs or a canteen for the children to have their snacks, so most of them carry Tiffin boxes to school for their afternoon snacks. There are only 5 class rooms and the tables, benches, and blackboards are so old that they creak a lot when the children sit down or write on the table or when the teacher writes on the blackboard. There aren't any dustbins in any of the class rooms so the rubbish is just thrown on the ground. There are only two small toilets with no locks on the doors and only one is in use due to the lack of water. If a child needs to use the toilet, another child also needs to go at the same time to accompany him/her, one has to stand on guard to block the toilet door while the other is doing their business!

Furthermore there aren't any staffs such as cleaner, sweeper or a caretaker allocated to take care of the school. There is no proper school attire so the children are not properly dressed. Ten years ago a Japanese woman had donated Rs. 75 000 to build part of the school. The school was built with the help of the villagers. The children do not have any sport equipment to play with so most of the time the children make up their own games.

Hardly any of the children have school bags. The constructed classroom floors and walls are badly damaged. Each year Rs. 30 000 is given to the school by the Education Ministry as an annual budget.
